Why host your game server in a data center
A game server runs day and night, attracts DDoS attacks and needs a stable connection. A home router and a wall socket stop being enough once your community grows.
DDoS protection included
Incoming traffic goes through our mitigation machines, which filter DDoS attacks (L3/L4/L7) in real time. Your players stay connected while the attack is absorbed upstream.
A network built for gaming
Paris data center, multi-carrier transit, free 10 Gbps uplink port, 25 to 250 Mbps guaranteed depending on the plan, dedicated IPv4 and IPv6 /64. Fixed addresses so your players always find you.
Your hardware, your choices
High-clock CPU, RAM, NVMe SSDs: you pick every component for your game, and no resource is shared with another customer.
Remote control of your machine
IPMI/KVM access on request to reboot or reinstall without travelling. Our team receives, racks and cables your server.
Which plan for which gaming project?
In colocation, you choose a plan first by your machine's power draw, then by rack space. Game servers benefit most from a high-clock-speed CPU, because the main loop of most games runs on few cores. Measure your server's real draw under load with a power meter, or describe its configuration in the form: we check it with you before racking.
| Your project | Typical machine | Recommended plan |
|---|---|---|
| A community server (FiveM, Minecraft, Rust…) | A compact machine with a low-power CPU | Game 1U, or Game 2U if the machine draws more than 100 W |
| A large RP server or several games on one machine | A high-clock CPU server with plenty of RAM | Game 2U |
| A network of game servers | Two machines, or a many-core server running Pterodactyl | Game 4U |
| A game hosting business, an esports club | Several nodes, a switch and a firewall | Game 12U or custom |
Gaming colocation, rented game server, dedicated server or home server?
Four ways to run a game server, with very different costs, levels of control and workloads.
| Gaming colocation | Rented game server | Rented dedicated server | Home server | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hardware | Yours, picked part by part | Resources set by the plan | Rented from the host | Yours |
| Administration | Full root access, you manage OS, panel and backups | Through a panel, few system settings | Root access, managed options depending on the plan | Everything is on you, on site |
| DDoS protection | Included | Depends on the host | Depends on the host | None: your router is exposed |
| Network | 10 Gbps uplink, fixed IP addresses | Depends on the plan | Bandwidth depends on the plan | Home connection, often a dynamic IP |
| Power | Redundant A/B in a data center | Handled by the host | Handled by the host | One socket, no backup |
| Cost | Fixed monthly fee, hardware paid off over time | Monthly subscription, cheapest way to start | Monthly server rent | Electricity bill |
| Best for | Established communities, game hosts | Launching a first server with nothing to manage | Big needs without buying hardware | Testing with friends |
No hardware yet? A ready-to-use FiveM server or a dedicated server saves you the purchase. For a non-gaming server, our colocation plans are identical, and GPU colocation takes machines with graphics cards. To compare approaches, read colocation or managed dedicated server and data center colocation: how it works.
Running your game server in colocation
ElypseCloud is your physical host, not your managed-services provider: the machine stays fully under your control.
System and panel
You have full root access. Install Debian or Ubuntu Server, then a panel such as Pterodactyl to manage your game servers: our Pterodactyl installation guide starts from a blank machine.
SSH access and firewall
Key-based SSH login, passwords disabled, and a firewall that only leaves SSH and your game ports open (30120 for FiveM, 25565 for Minecraft…). Our first security settings apply as is.
Backups
In colocation, backups are your responsibility: worlds, databases and configs should be copied off the machine, ideally every day.
What the data center provides
DDoS protection, infrastructure high availability (A/B power, N+1 redundancy), guaranteed bandwidth, fixed IP addresses and IPMI/KVM access on request.
What you can run in gaming colocation
FiveM and RedM
GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 2 roleplay servers with txAdmin, ESX or QBCore and a MySQL/MariaDB database on the same machine.
Minecraft
Paper or Fabric servers, RAM-hungry modpacks, or a whole network linked by a proxy such as Velocity.
Survival and FPS
Rust, ARK, Palworld, Counter-Strike 2, Garry's Mod: any dedicated game server that runs on Linux or Windows.
Game hosting business
Several Pterodactyl nodes to host your community's servers or launch your own hosting offer.
